Furstenau excited to lead BC Greens into next phase of growth

VICTORIA, BC – Sonia Furstenau, MLA for Cowichan Valley, celebrated being elected the Leader of the BC Green Party.

“I ran for leader because I know the BC Greens are just getting started changing BC politics,” said Furstenau.

“I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of my incredible volunteers and supporters, as well as my core campaign team who have worked tirelessly for 9 months to raise the profile of the Party by promoting a hopeful vision for our province.

“Because of the BC Green Party we have banned big money, reformed the lobbying industry, and made crucial changes to environmental protection and oversight laws. We understand that if we truly want to build a more sustainable, equitable and affordable province, we need to follow what the evidence says will actually deliver tangible outcomes. And we know that to achieve these outcomes, we need to put principle ahead of politics and collaborate with the other parties, even when we don’t agree with them on everything. Our perspective is more crucial than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need to renew our province’s economy and services.

“I’d like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Cam, Kim and their teams on running solid campaigns to the very end. This has been an exciting leadership campaign that has invigorated our Party with new ideas and supporters. I’m excited to work with them all to continue to grow the Party and keep bringing change to BC.”
