B.C. Election 2020: Greens vow to put $1 billion into mental health under MSP

The B.C. Green party has vowed to invest $1 billion into mental health under the province’s Medical Services Program.

Green leader Sonia Furstenau announced the commitment during an event Monday in Victoria, citing the pandemic as having brought to light the importance of mental-health treatment.

“It’s time we treated mental health like any other widespread health issue, and properly fund it within our public health system,” she said. “By investing in keeping people healthy and well, we will prevent costly mental-health crises that strip our medical-health system and other services, and ensure that British Columbians stay happy and healthy, and that our communities are stronger and more secure.”
