Public Meeting

Tuesday, May 31 @ 7 PM – Shawnigan Lake Community Centre

The owners of 3170/3172 Shawnigan Lake Road have applied to amend the zoning designation of 170/3172 Shawnigan Lake Road to legalize an existing non-conforming saw mill presently situated on the eastern side of the subject property. The property is currently zoned Suburban Residential (R-2), a zone that does not permit saw mill use.

No faith in Mary Polak

Vancouver Province – March 24, 2016
I have been living in a bubble for years, thinking that the Environment Ministry was there to protect the environment and the resources of the people they represent. Watching recent news, that bubble has burst.
No comment is what you often hear from Environment Minister Mary Polak on issues of water safety at Shawnigan Lake and Spallumcheen, where they have had no tap water for a year. Recently, with regard to Shawnigan Lake and the residents’ win in court, we heard “the ministry said its staff will need to review the decision to fully understand its impact before providing further comment”.
More troubling was a quote on Shawnigan’s water, that “the only slightly elevated levels … only affect those things such as taste or laundry staining.” I have lost all faith in Polak’s willingness to protect the drinking water of British Columbians.
